Machine pieced and Longarm Quilted, Bobbin Work Applique Birds

Bold colored geometric shaped Batik fabrics create a wide frame highlighting tree branches filled with colorful applique birds. The birds were created with a thread art technique known as bobbin work. A heavy thread is used in the sewing machine's bobbin and the birds are essentially sewn upside down to achieve bold, textured, or "beaded" effects, then they are appliqued on to the quilt.

A leaf quilt pattern is used to continue to simulate the tree.
